The laws of the universe

Matter is matter, and
energy is energy, and you
can’t make something
out of nothing—
that’s what the universe demands.
Because when one thing gets
better, then another thing gets
worse,
(and it’s always been like
that, don’t you know?)
But if we close our eyes
(tighter, tighter!)
and wish very, very hard,
things might start to seem
a little less bad,
like maybe at
the end of this all
there is still
something worth fighting for.
